赤飯
おこわの一種。もち米、もしくはもち米とうるち米を、小豆やささげ豆と一緒に蒸す、または炊いたご飯。豆の色で赤みがかった色のご飯にできあがる。赤は慶事の色であることから、お祝いの席で食される。
Red bean rice
A type of steamed sticky rice. Sticky rice or a combination of sticky rice and short-grain white rice mixed with red beans and cowpeas that is either cooked or steamed. The rice is tinted with a shade of red from the beans. Often served during special occasions, as red symbolizes happiness.
